Porreres is a town and municipality in the rural heartland of Mallorca, situated in the agricultural region of Es Pla and it has over 5,000 residents. Porreres has settlements dating back to the Bronze Age and was occupied by both the Saracens and the Romans. There are still ancient public wells scattered around the town which date back to the Arab occupation. The town itself is similar to many Mallorcan towns, with its stone buildings, winding streets and hidden squares. However there are a few surprises here, for example the town hall is host to an exhibition of modern art, including works by Salvador Dali. The high quality of food and drink in restaurants and bars here is something else you might not expect.
